Dave Chisessi | Artist
Biography
Dave was born and has lived in the Santa Clara Valley for most of his life.
Dave worked in engineering as a first profession, which afforded him the opportunity to create things that were truly transformative, such as spacecraft and internet systems. Dave learned his oil and acrylic painting skills through numerous classes and workshops over the last 20 years. He currently shows his work at traditional galleries and is a member of the Allied Artists West professional artists group. In addition to painting, he enjoys hiking, running, biking, camping, and backpacking in the open country.
About My Art
For me, painting landscape and still life is a way to connect with nature and capture that feeling for myself and others to enjoy. I resist formula and simply try to express the essence and emotion of what I see and feel. Since nature is my inspiration, I have spent countless hours painting directly in plein air or from flowers grown in my garden. This has given me an intimate visual vocabulary to use as a point of departure. But my objective is not to create a visual record of a beautiful place or thing. Rather it is to convey the emotionaI experience when I am in nature. I want to express the wildness, majesty, and spiritual content of nature. To do this, you will see use of exaggerated colors, focus on specific elements while suppressing most others, and employment of a more abstract style. I also enjoy reflecting the randomness of nature through drips, splashes, and other techniques. This odyssey to convey emotion has led my style to become more and more abstract. I know I have succeeded when viewers describe my work in emotional terms such as “wild”, “mysterious”, “exciting”, “calming” and the like.
